Exjade, the newest oral chelaters available in the market that is approved. It was available few years after Ferrirpone/Ferriprox L1 is being used in patients. The price of exjade is much more expensive than ferriprone, almost 1 tablet of exjade is equal to over 10 tablets of ferrirpone. The dosage for exjade is 1-3 tablets everyday, depend on personal need. Compare to ferriprone, where some patients are taking 10 tablets a day. Exjade advantage is getting of iron in the liver as well as in the heart. Many patients taking ferrirpox might need to switch to exjade, due to ferrirpox is lagging in getting rid of iron overload in the liver.
In Singapore not that many Thalassemia patients are taking exjade at this point, because it's an newer drug, not many doctor will recommend it to their patients yet as they might be unknown side-effect that haven been found. Desferal infusion and ferriprone L1 Tablet are still more commonly chelaters in Singapore. Is different for chelater to be used for patients in different countries. That's it, do leave me a comment if you have something to say. I will see you later (:
